On 30 March, NLP hosted a meeting of the London & South East branch of the Institute of Economic Development (IED). Senior Associate Director, John Robertson, who heads NLP's economics team, presented a paper on the economic implications of the new guidance provided by PPS4: Planning for Sustainable Economic Development. This traced the evolution of PPS4 since 1992, noting the greatly changed economic circumstances it now has to deal with, outlined its main features and noted the implications for those involved in economic development planning. It also examined how suitable the new guidance is to deal with current economic planning issues and what additional requirements it places on local authorities in tandem with the new Local Economic Assessment duty.
